By Ha Man-joo, India correspondent, AsiaToday - Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned 'Team India' as many as 35 times on August 15. In his 86-minute Independence Day speech from the ramparts of Red Fort in New Delhi on Saturday, Prime Minister Modi said, "This is Team India, a team of 125 crore Indians. This is the team that makes the nation and takes our nation to new heights."


The Prime Minister announced the "Start-up India, Stand up India" as one of his key initiatives of the government.


He said, "We must be number one in start-ups. We will encourage the establishment of the 125,000 start-ups so each of them could create two or three jobs."


He has been presenting his key initiatives through catchy slogans in English or Hindi - like Make in India, Swachh Bharat ("Clean India"), Beti Bachao Beti Padhao ('Save the girl child, educate the girl child"). This time, he presented the 'Star-up, Stand Up' slogan as the government's initiative to raise start-ups.

Modi is also known for using words with double meaning, such as "clean" and "India Team." While the word "clean" refers to cleanliness of school and sanitation maintenance, it also refers to abolishing discrimination and a war against corruption.


During the speech, Modi said the 'Clean India' campaign was on track, as another effort of Team India. He revealed that it generated Rs 1,000 crore of revenue as a result. He added, "There is no place for caste or communalism. They won't be tolerated."


He revealed that he would put farming as India's new growth drivers and that the agriculture ministry will be renamed as ministry for agriculture and farmers, for the welfare of farmers.


Meanwhile, the PM posted both Korean and English messages on Minister's Office website along with photos taken during his visit to Korea on May 18-19 to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Korean independence from Japan.


In the message, he wrote, "India considers Korea as an important partner for the modernization of the Indian economy. We are working hard to develop the trade relations with Korea."
