AsiaToday launches its first intern press corps in India

Fifteen graduate students of the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) will work as intern reporters in AsiaToday. They will be offering news to Korean readers in the eyes of Indian students.

By Ha Man-joo, India correspondent, AsiaToday - AsiaToday has launched an Indian University Student Intern Press Corps in New Delhi on February 1. This is the first time that a Korean media outlet to establish an intern press corps abroad that is comprised of local university students.


On Feb. 1-2, AsiaToday conducted an internship training at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi, India. 15 Korean studies majored students of JNU took part in the training. Students of Delhi University are also expected to join the press corps. Jawaharlal Nehru University, which was named after India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, is one of the most prestigious universities in India. In particular, its Center for Korean Studies celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.


Intern reporters will cover news from their angles as Indian students, and write articles in both Korean and English for the next six months. Professor Lee Hyun-kyung and Prof. Santosh K. Ranjan will take the role of advisors. AsiaToday is planning to carry out training on covering news every once a week for intern reporters.


During the first two-day training, AsiaToday held lectures on the role of the media and journalists, how to cover a news and write an article, how to interview, and more.


Since 2014, AsiaToday has been running an intern press corps comprised of Korean university students.
