The government on Thursday has unveiled the Great Train eXpress (GTX) project that will connect Incheon and Seoul within 30 minutes.

The government also proposed to dramatically develop Incheon by significantly developing the nation’s strategic industries of aviation, shipping and logistics using Incheon as a bridgehead, and investing 2.4 trillion won in the original city center of Incheon to promote redevelopment projects.

President Yoon Suk-yeol made the promise during a government-public debate held at Incheon City Halll, just west of the capital, saying he will change the “sea, sky and land of Incheon.”

The president later attended a groundbreaking ceremony for the GTX-B line, vowing to open the GTX-B line by 2030 without a hitch.

“Of the six GTX lines, Lines B, D, and E departures from Incheon,” Yoon said. “Once the Line B is opened, the travel time from Incheon City Hall to Yeouido in Seoul will take 18 minutes, and to Seoul Station 29 minutes,” he said.

The government plans to extend the Line B route to Gapyeong in Gyeonggi Province and Chuncheon in Gangwon Province while laying the groundwork for the Line D route and Line E route.

It will also drastically improve transportation conditions of new cities including Yeongjong, Cheongna, Geomdan, and Gyeyang, while connecting the Suin Line and the Gyeongbu High-Speed Railway within the term of office.
