The main opposition Democratic Party (DP) announced Wednesday that it plans to hold a vote on the second impeachment motion against President Yoon Suk-yeol on Saturday at 5 p.m.

“We will report the motion at the plenary session on Thursday, and the vote will take place on Saturday,” Kang Yoo-jung, the DP’s floor spokesperson told reporters after the general meeting of party lawmakers at the National Assembly.

Regarding the difference between the first impeachment motion, Kang said, “I understand that there has been no significant change,” Kang said.

However, the second motion for Yoon’s impeachment has been postponed. A source from the DP said that there are many additional details to include in the impeachment motion. “As we select what must be included in the impeachment, we inevitably pushed the motion to Thursday due to lack of physical time,” the source said.

The second impeachment motion reportedly included that the emergency martial law declared by President Yoon last Tuesday violated the Constitution and laws, including the principle of national sovereignty and separation of powers. In order for the impeachment bill to be passed, more than two thirds of the lawmakers in the National Assembly need approval.
