Singer Tei has addressed the controversy surrounding his recent comments about the late former People Power Party lawmaker, Jang Je-won, who was under investigation for sexual assault allegations before his death.

On April 2, during the opening of MBC FM4U's 'Good Morning FM with Tei,' which he hosts, Tei stated, "I wasn't defending the deceased; I was expressing sorrow over an unfortunate situation." He elaborated, "Whether it's the victim or the accused, I wasn't lamenting someone's death per se. It was disheartening that, just as one side was about to present the truth, things concluded this way."

Tei acknowledged the listeners' frustration, saying, "I fully understand why people are angry today. Based solely on the articles, I see how it could be interpreted that way, but that wasn't my intention." He also mentioned responding individually to direct messages from listeners, clarifying his stance and expressing gratitude for their understanding and support.

The controversy arose on April 1 during a live broadcast of his radio program. While delivering the daily 'Keyword News' segment, Tei reported on Jang Je-won's death and remarked, "It's unfortunate." This led to criticism from some listeners who questioned what was unfortunate about the situation, highlighting the harm caused by Jang's alleged actions and expressing concern for the victims.

Jang Je-won, who previously served as a vice president at a university in Busan, was under police investigation for allegedly sexually assaulting his secretary. He was found deceased on March 31 at an officetel in Seoul's Gangdong District. The secretary had planned a press conference on the day of Jang's death but canceled it upon learning of his passing. Jang's funeral is scheduled to be held at Haeundae Baek Hospital in Busan on April 2.
