Lee Byung-hun’s film The Match is poised to top the weekend box office for a third consecutive week.
According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated ticketing network on April 11, The Match currently holds a leading reservation rate of 24.0%, far ahead of the second-ranked Opposition at 13.0%.
Based on the legendary real-life Go rivalry between Cho Hun-hyun and Lee Chang-ho, the film has drawn 1,501,583 viewers since its March 26 release. It is expected to approach the 2 million mark after the weekend.
In contrast, titles once anticipated to challenge its dominance—Lobby and The Amateur—are underperforming. Lobby, directed by and starring Ha Jung-woo, has slipped to 7th place with a 4.9% reservation rate. The Amateur, a Hollywood spy thriller starring Rami Malek that opened on April 9, is in 4th place (5.9%), trailing behind the Japanese animated film Attack on Titan: The Final Chapter – The Last Attack (8.8%).
