Park Chan-dae, acting leader and floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, harshly criticized former President Yoon Suk-yeol on April 14, accusing him of remaining “trapped in delusion” and refusing to take responsibility for his actions.
Speaking at a Supreme Council meeting at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, Park stated, “His behavior remains abnormal and shameless. By carelessly saying things like ‘whether it's five years or three years, it's all the same,’ he is provoking public anger instead of showing remorse or taking responsibility.”
Park continued, “We hope he will offer a sincere apology and reflect on his actions before the people, and that he will submit to the judgment of the law. But there is no sign of that happening.”
As Yoon’s first criminal trial begins on charges of leading an insurrection, Park expressed concern, saying, “The public hopes that justice will be served through the criminal proceedings. However, there are already signs of unprecedented privileges being granted.”
He pointed out, “The court has reportedly allowed Yoon to enter through the underground parking lot and prohibited media coverage of the proceedings. One must ask whether these decisions align with the principles of fairness expected by the public.”
Park concluded by urging the judiciary to uphold the principle that all are equal before the law. “The court must render a stern and fair judgment according to the law. That is the only way to restore public trust in the judiciary,” he said.
